Trust in the Lord! This is such a bold, challenging, and encouraging statement! We often hear and may repeat it to others. We mean it with all our hearts and seek to live it. We earnestly teach our children to trust and obey for there is no other way to be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey. One definition says that trust means to earnestly hope, and we know that our trust in Jesus is certainly a confident assurance.
We also put our trust in other people. We trust doctors for good medical advice. We trust the airplane pilot to safely land the plane on which we travel. We even trust others to stop at the red light or stop sign. We trust our friends with things held in confidence. Recently, I began to ponder why is it that sometimes it is so hard to trust God? Many times our hearts know the right answers, but we still worry and become anxious. What are some things we can do to be more trusting?
1.We can remember that He is always present with us. What an amazing, glorious thought that is though we forget it and try to plan things ourselves. When we focus on the thought that He is constantly weighing every one of our thoughts, word, and actions, and attitudes, it is very sobering. Yet, knowing this helps us have strength to trust.
2.We can remember to walk by faith and not by sight. Hebrews 11:1 tells us: “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.”
3.We can remember that it is not our wisdom but in His wisdom alone we can trust. I am so grateful for an all-wise Heavenly Father who will lead us every step of the way.
In closing, there is good news! I once heard that to TRUST is to “TOTALLY REST UPON SCRIPTURAL TRUTH”. Does not that just sound so refreshing. What a relief! We can not carry our burdens, but our great Burden Bearer is able and willing. Did you know that when animals are trained to work for farmers they are yoked together in an amazing way?. There is always a very strong animal that is placed with one that may be weaker. That is a beautiful picture of us being yoked with Jesus. We are weak, but He is strong and loves to bear our burdens. We can fully trust Him!
Simply trusting every day.
Trusting through a stormy way
Even when my faith is small
Trusting Jesus that is all
